11) Former Grand Hotel

Former Grand Hotel

Address: 26 Still Road, Singapore 423935

What was the original name of the building? Who built it? What can you find out about its history?

The history of the Grand Hotel can be traced back to 1920. It was said to be built in 1917 by an Indian cattle merchant Moona Kader Sultan. He had to build such a big house enough for his many wives as well.  However, it is no longer called the "Grand Hotel" but "Odyssey the Global Preschool" and "Pats Schoolhouse - Katong". The original hotel seemed to have transformed to a place for kids. Mini playgrounds for children are observed in the premises. The environment in the Former Grand Hotel is beautiful and peaceful. The architect of the building still preserves the olden British style of architect. The grand hotel, built in 1920, was previously one of the most magnificent private housing in the area before becoming a hotel. Its architecture was built in a Victorian and psuedo-high renaissance style. Even today, in our opinion, the building still looks grand and expensive. We did wonder how much money the company have to invest to rent or owe this place to set-up a pre-school in this building.
