1) Joo Chiat Complex

Joo Chiat Complex

The first official stop we went tp was the Joo Chiat Complex. Although the complex seem interesting, there was very little history of significance.

However, upon further research, there is one important historical feature around the complex. It was was the electric tramway that was developed in the 1900s. This track ran along the Joo Chiat-Changi Market (present day Joo Chiat Complex) and Tanjong Pagar. Research also shown that this road became an important road for many transport operations in the 1920s. For instance, the Singapore Traction Company (STC) started the trolley bus services which monopolised along Joo Chiat road. The service started in 1926 which opened a route which ran along Joo chiat to Tanjong Pagar.

After our first stop, we strolled down Joo Chiat road where many shophouses are. These are some of the shophouses we passed!
